Cinco Paus Wand ability list

Version 2.0 (last updated 6/1/2018). Many changes. English names and many more notes on what can’t occur together. See the bottom for some notes about ability order.

Cinco Paus, Michael Brough’s new game, is fantastic. Check it out if you haven’t already! As a quirky design choice, all help text is in Portuguese. If you want to know the abilities and don’t want to look up everything in Google translate, look no farther! Below is a list of all wand abilities, with notable interactions also listed. Please let me know if you think I’m missing something!

1. Ataque – Attack

01_ataque Deal one damage to all enemies your wand beam passes through.

  • Cannot appear on same wand as:
    • 6. Coquetel de Camarao – Shrimp Cocktail
    • 7. Mascara – Charm Ghost
    • 11. Acabar – Execute
    • 12. Golias – Goliath Kill

2. O Fogo – Side Attack

02_o_fogo Deal one damage to all enemies your wand beam travels next to (provided there is not a separating wall).

  • Important exception: if a beam travels through a space occupied by an enemy #1, and enemy #2 is next to it, enemy #2 won’t get hit by this ability (bug?).
  • The above bullet can get cancelled out if combined with 22. Teleporte Outro – Teleport Other.
  • If there’s a wall separating your beam and the enemy, it won’t get hit.
  • You can hit the same enemy multiple times using 42. Reflexao – Refracting Ray.

3. Detritos – Wall Attack

03_detritos Deal one damage to all enemies your wand beam travels next to (provided there is a separating wall).

  • Unlike O Fogo, if a beam travels through a space occupied by an enemy #1, and enemy #2 is next to it and separated by a wall, enemy #2 will get hit.
  • You can hit the same enemy multiple times using the corner reflection ability (42. Reflexao – Refracting Ray).

4. Esplosao – Explode

04_explosso At the end of your wand’s beam, deal one damage to everyone (including possibly yourself) in a 3×3 square AOE attack.

  • Cannot appear with:
    • 21. Teleporte – Teleport Self
    • 34. Os Espinhos – Thorns
    • 49. Caro – Gem Kill

5. Senha – Secret Attack

05_senha This does nothing until it is identified by either the 46. Identificar wand ability, a treasure that identifies an ability, or certain artifacts that can identify abilities. Once revealed, all enemies your beam touches take 2 damage.

  • Unlike 1. Ataque – Attack, can occur with any other ability.

6. Coquetel de Camarao – Shrimp Cocktail

06_coquetel_de_camarao Kill all shrimp this passes through, and restore 1 health for each.

  • Doesn’t activate at all if you’re at full life.
  • Cannot appear with:
    • 1. Ataque – Attack
    • 16. Camarao Novo – Spawn Shrimp

7. Mascara – Charm Ghost

07_mascara Converts all Phantasms your beam touches to your side.

  • After conversion, it always acts after the enemies. So it can only attack something if monster moves into range on its turn.
  • It’s possible to convert a phantasm, then polymorph it into a different monster (even a Chicken!)
  • If you convert a Phantasm that is asleep, it will wake up (bug?).
  • If a converted Phantasm walks up to an enemy that is asleep, it will get one free hit in before the enemy wakes up (bug?). This means, unlike your avatar, it can kill a Phantasm that is asleep by walking up to it and attacking.
  • If the Phantasm has Raiz Esquerda (the one that prevents movement until a spell is cast), it can only cast it on other enemies that have Raiz Esquerda. Because it will act last, this means it will always lose duels against other Phantasms.
  • Cannot appear with:
    • 1. Ataque – Attack
    • 23. Dormir – Sleep

8. Morte de Largarto – Kill Lizard

08_morte_de_lagarto Kills all lizards your beam touches.

9. Morte de Sapo – Kill Frog

09_morte_de_sapo Kills all frogs your beam touches.

10. Morte de Galo – Kill Chicken

10_morte_de_galo Kills all chickens your beam touches.

11. Acabar – Execute

11_acabar Kills all enemies your beam touches that have already taken at least one damage.

  • Appears to usually be high priority.
  • This cannot appear on the same wand with:
    • 1. Ataque – Attack

12. Golias – Goliath Kill

12_golias Kills all enemies your beam touches if they have more health than you do.

  • Cannot appear with:
    • 1. Ataque – Attack
    • 6. Coquetel de Camarao – Shrimp Cocktail
    • 17. Curar de Terra – Heal Bottom

13. Impar e Par – Alternating Kill

13_impar_e_par Kills every other enemy your beam touches.

  • Will kill the 2nd, 4th, 6th, etc. enemies the beam touches.

14. Alvo Preciso – Precise Kill

14_alvo_preciso If your beam ends on a square with an enemy, kill that enemy.

15. Sangue – Corpse Kill

15_sangue Kill all enemies your beam touches that are standing on a corpse (the bean thingies in the icon).

16. Camarao Novo – Spawn Shrimp

16_camarao_novo Spawn a shrimp where your beam ends.

  • If the square where your beam ends already has a monster, a shrimp is not spawned (even if the beam kills that monster).

17. Curar de Terra – Heal Bottom

17_curar_de_terra Restore one health if your beam touches the bottom edge.

  • For all of the “touch side” abilities, your beam doesn’t have to end on the edge. If it bounces or passes through, you still get the health.
  • You can get two or even three “touch side” abilities on the same wand, annoyingly. Not sure about four.
  • Does not reveal itself at full life.

18. Braco Direito Forte – Charge Right

18_braco_direto_forte If your beam touches the right edge, your next basic attack instantly kills an enemy in one hit.

  • Your attack also kills phantasms that could otherwise run away.
  • Can be carried into the next zone, but not the next game.

19. A Energia – Refresh Top

19_a_energia If your beam touches the top edge, refresh a wand.

  • The wand refreshed is not random. If you hit the first square from the left, you’ll refresh the first wand. Second square from the left will refresh the second wand, and so on.
  • Yes, this means you can use it to refresh itself. This can be pretty strong in certain situations!
  • This cannot appear on the same wand with the following abilities:
    • 25. Duplicar – Duplicate
    • 37. Tesouro Perdido – Buried Treasure
    • 38. Tesouro Escondido – Niche Treasure
    • 39. O pilar – Pillar Treasure
    • 40. Dourado – Corpse Treasure
  • Multi-wand infinite combos are still possible, so created treasure is capped per floor. The outside border will turn grey when you’ve reached the limit.

20. Raiz Esquerda – Freeze Left

20_raiz_esquerda If your wand touches the left side, you become unable to move until you use a wand.

  • Surprisingly this has one niche use – it lets you kill Phantasms that could otherwise escape.
  • If you’ve already used all your wands, M. Brough has mercy on you and you don’t get frozen for all eternity.

21. Teleporte – Teleport Self

21_teleporte Teleport to where your beam ends.

  • You won’t teleport if the space is occupied by an enemy, even if your wand kills the enemy that turn.
  • This cannot appear on the same wand with the following abilities:
    • 37. Tesouro Perdido – Buried Treasure
    • 38. Tesouro Escondido – Niche Treasure
    • 39. O pilar – Pillar Treasure
  • Can appear with 40. Dourado – Corpse Treasure

22. Teleporte Outro – Teleport Other

22_teleporte_outro Teleport all enemies your beam touches to a random space.

  • Enemies will always be moved at least a space away from you, but you can still be hit if you move as well (e.g. by 21. Teleporte – Teleport Self).

23. Dormir – Sleep

23_dormir Put all enemies your beam touches to sleep.

  • Enemies sleep as long as you do not move next to them, even if they get damaged.
  • If you move next to a sleeping enemy, it will wake up as its action.
  • If you put an enemy to sleep right next to you and immediately move away, it will not wake up.
  • The enemy won’t wake up if there’s a wall separating the two of you.
  • The enemy won’t wake up if it takes damage from poison right as you walk up to it.
  • You can make an enemy fall asleep next to the frog spawn. This will permanently block one frog from coming in, but all other frogs will come in through the exit instead.

24. Polimorfo – Polymorph

24_polimorfo Transform all enemies your beam touches into another random enemy.

  • Damage carries over. If a lizard with 1 damage on it is polymorphed into a shrimp, the shrimp will immediately die.
  • Status effects (poison, friendly, etc.) carry over.
  • This can also be used to transform treasures into another random treasure.

25. Duplicar – Duplicate

25_duplicar Clone all objects your beam touches.

  • Can clone either treasures or enemies.
  • Status effects (friendly, poison, etc.) and health carry over to cloned enemies.
  • In order for the clone to be successful, there has to be an adjacent space that meets the following criteria:
    • Does not have an enemy if you are cloning an enemy, and does not have a treasure if you are cloning a treasure.
    • Is orthogonal to the path of your beam. In other words, it can’t be “in front of” or “behind” the cloned object, but must be to the “side of it”, relative to your beam’s path.
    • Is not separated by a wall.
  • Can clone the same object multiple times with 43. Reflexao – Refracting Ray.
  • This cannot appear on the same wand with the following abilities:
    • 37. Tesouro Perdido – Buried Treasure
    • 38. Tesouro Escondido – Niche Treasure
    • 39. O pilar – Pillar Treasure
    • 40. Dourado – Corpse Treasure

26. Esgotar – Remove Abilities

26_esgotar Remove all abilities from an enemy.

  • Abilities don’t come until later, making this useless in the first few runs of a campaign.
  • Does not appear before an enemy gets at least one ability.

27. O Toxico – Poison

27_O_toxico Poisons an enemy.

  • Has 5 ticks.
  • On the 5th tick, the monster will take a damage and be stunned for one turn. This means you can kite a monster until it has 4 ticks, then attack it for free.
  • If a monster heals health (through a monster ability), the poison is cured.

28. Urdidura de Tempo – Time Warp

28_urdidura_de_tempo Warps all objects your beam touches to the next zone.

  • If you use this in the 5th zone, the monsters will appear in the first zone of your next game.
  • Status effects and health persist.
  • Also warps treasure.
  • If you warp the key, you won’t be able to access the treasure in this zone, but can collect a key into your inventory for the next zone.
  • You can also warp the locked treasure to the next zone with a pass-through ability. If you do, the locked doors disappear and you can add the current zone’s key to your inventory.
  • You can carry a maximum of 5 keys in your inventory.
  • Once you have 5 keys, you can occasionally access the secret room. Walk around the edge of a level and sometimes a new door will open.
  • It’s possible for the warped enemy to be trapped on the locked treasure square. This is not normally possible.

29. O Espelho – Mirror Kill

29_o_espelho For every enemy your beam hits, if there are one or more enemies of the same type, kill one of them.

  • If there are four of the same type of enemy and you hit two of them, you might get unlucky and kill only one enemy.
  • If this is on the same wand as clone, the clone can be killed by this effect.

30. Adicional – Proc Attack

30_adicional Every time the previous effect on the wand happens, deal one damage to a random enemy.

  • If this appears after 43. Reflexao – Refracting Ray, every time the beam reflects in a new direction, a random enemy will take one damage.

31. Construir – Build Wall

31_construir Creates a wall between you and the square you immediately fire into.

  • You can’t trap yourself (or other squares) with this. There must be a path from every square to every other square (besides the locked treasure).

32. Demolicao – Break Wall

32_demolicao Destroys walls your beam touches.

  • Cannot destroy locked walls.
  • Can be used to create a path to the locked treasure.
  • If a path is open, all locked door walls immediately disappear. You can also collect a key, which goes into your inventory.
  • This can clear more than one wall when comboed with 41. Penetracao.

33. A Saida – Move Exit

33_A_saida If your beam ends on an outside edge, move the exit there.

  • When combined with 41. Penetracao, you can create an exit next to the locked treasure. If you do, all locked walls disappear, and you can collect the key into your inventory.

34. Os Espinhos – Thorns

34_os_espinhos Create a thorn on all tiles your beam passes through that do not have a wall next to them. The thorn does 1 damage to the first thing that walks into it.

  • Yes, this can damage you.
  • Does not create a thorn if there is an enemy on the square.
  • Even if you kill an enemy blocking a square, you won’t spawn a spine.
  • If you move an enemy blocking a square, you will spawn a spine.
  • Cannot appear with 4. Esplosao.

35. Poupanca – Chargeable

35_poupanca If you don’t use this wand in a zone, it gets stored as a charge. You can then use the wand multiple times in future zones.

  • Can be charged with 19. A Energia – Refresh Top.
  • Can be charged with the Lampiao Recharga artifact even if not revealed.

36. Colecao – Grab Treasure

36_colecao Takes a treasure.

  • Taking a key immediately unlocks all locked walls.
  • Taking the locked treasure with a pass-through ability also does this.
  • As of the most recent patch, can now appear with treasure.
  • This cannot appear on the same wand with the following abilities:
    • 37. Tesouro Perdido – Buried Treasure
    • 38. Tesouro Escondido – Niche Treasure
    • 39. O pilar – Pillar Treasure
    • 40. Dourado – Corpse Treasure

37. Tesouro Perdido – Buried Treasure

37_tesouro_perdida If your beam does not pass through any enemies, spawn a treasure where your beam ends.

  • Will not spawn a treasure if there’s already one there.
  • This cannot appear on the same wand with the following abilities:
    • 11. Acabar – Execute
    • 19. A Energia – Refresh Top
    • 21. Teleporte – Teleport Self
    • 25. Duplicar – Duplicate
    • 36. Colecao – Grab Treasure
    • 38. Tesouro Escondido – Niche Treasure
    • 39. O pilar – Pillar Treasure
    • 40. Dourado – Corpse Treasure

38. Tesouro Escondido – Niche Treasure

38_tesouro_escondido If your beam passes through a square with 3 walls, spawn a treasure there.

  • Can combo with 31. Contruir to build a wall and immediately spawn a treasure if there are two other walls there.
  • Can spawn multiple treasures with above bullet or a pass-through ability.
  • This cannot appear on the same wand with the following abilities:
    • 11. Acabar – Execute
    • 19. A Energia – Refresh Top
    • 21. Teleporte – Teleport Self
    • 25. Duplicar – Duplicate
    • 36. Colecao – Grab Treasure
    • 37. Tesouro Perdido – Buried Treasure
    • 39. O pilar – Pillar Treasure
    • 40. Dourado – Corpse Treasure

39. O Pilar – Pillar Treasure

39_o_pilar If your beam touches a wall that isn’t connected to any other wall, spawn a treasure on the other side.

  • Can combo with 31. Contruir to build a wall and immediately spawn a treasure if there aren’t any connecting walls.
  • Can spawn multiple treasures with above bullet or a pass-through ability.
  • The space on the other side of the wall cannot already have a treasure.
  • This cannot appear on the same wand with the following abilities:
    • 11. Acabar – Execute
    • 19. A Energia – Refresh Top
    • 21. Teleporte – Teleport Self
    • 25. Duplicar – Duplicate
    • 36. Colecao – Grab Treasure
    • 37. Tesouro Perdido – Buried Treasure
    • 38. Tesouro Escondido – Niche Treasure
    • 40. Dourado – Corpse Treasure

40. Dourado – Corpse Treasure

40_dourado If your wand kills an enemy, spawn a treasure where the enemy died.

  • If an enemy wanders over a thorn this wand created through 34. Os Espinhos – Thorns, it spawns a treasure.
  • If you use an attack powered up by this wand through 18. Braco Direito Forte, it will spawn a treasure as long as the ability was relevant. For instance killing a 3 HP frog will spawn a treasure, but killing a 1 HP frog will not. This works even if you carry the powered up attack to the next zone.
  • Enemies poisoned with 27. O Toxico from this wand will drop a treasure.
  • Of course, if you kill a Rooster, nothing happens since it will drop a treasure anyway.
  • This cannot appear on the same wand with the following abilities:
    • 11. Acabar – Execute
    • 19. A Energia – Refresh Top
    • 21. Teleporte – Teleport Self
    • 25. Duplicar – Duplicate
    • 36. Colecao – Grab Treasure
    • 37. Tesouro Perdido – Buried Treasure
    • 38. Tesouro Escondido – Niche Treasure
    • 39. O pilar – Pillar Treasure

41. Penetracao – Penetrating Ray

41_penetracao Your beam passes through walls.

  • As a pass-through ability, this has lots of weird interactions. See:
    • 32. Demolicao – Destroy Wall
    • 33. A Saida – Move Exit
    • 36. Colecao – Grab Treasure
    • 38. Tesouro Escondido – Niche Treasure
    • 39. O Pilar – Pillar Treasure
  • Cannot appear with 43. Reflexao – Refracting Ray

42. Envolver – Continuing Ray

42_envolver If your beam hits an edge, it passes through to the other side.

  • Even with this ability, your beam can’t pass through your own avatar. It will stop if it hits you.
  • As a pass-through ability, this has lots of weird interactions. See:
    • 36. Colecao – Grab Treasure
    • 38. Tesouro Escondido – Niche Treasure
    • 39. O Pilar – Pillar Treasure

43. Reflexao – Refracting Ray

43_reflexao This causes your beam to bounce if it hits a corner with 2 sides.

  • Nothing happens if it hits a 3 sided square or a 1 sided square.
  • Even with this ability, your beam can’t pass through your own avatar. It will stop if it hits you.
  • Cannot appear with 41. Penetracao.

44. Raio Courto – Short Ray

44_raio_courto If your beam hits an enemy, it stops on that square.

  • If the enemy is standing right next to a wall, the beam still hits that wall.
  • This has an interesting bug with 43. Reflexao – Refracting Ray. If you hit an enemy on a corner, your beam will bend a tiny bit, but Reflexao will not be revealed as a wand.

45. Instante – Instant

45_instante Using this wand is a free action (enemies don’t move after you use it).

  • This will only get revealed as an ability if you use it with one enemy in play (or a frog in the door).
  • If all enemies are completely trapped, this won’t get revealed.

46. Proteger – Protect

46_proteger This turn, if a monster attacks you, you don’t take a damage and they take the damage instead.

  • If this is on a wand that also has 45. Instante – Instant, you can move in a direction or use another wand and the reflect effect will still happen.
  • Does not reflect damage from enemy spells (e.g. 1. Ataque – Hit)

47. Identificar – Identify

47_identificar Reveal an ability on a wand.

  • There are five wands with five abilities. This forms a 5×5 grid. The ability revealed is the one that corresponds to where you are on the grid when you use the wand.

48. Esquecer – Forget

48_esquecer Forget an ability on a wand and replace it with a new (hidden) ability.

  • There are five wands with five abilities. This forms a 5×5 grid. The ability forgotten is the one that corresponds to where you are on the grid when you use the wand.
  • Does not “forget” unidentified abilities.

49. Caro – Gem Kill

49_caro If you have a gem (the treasures that show up in your inventory) and your wand hits an enemy with at least 2 hp, you lose a gem and kill the enemy.

50. O Terremoto – Earthquake

50_o_terremoto If your beam passes through the center of the board, deal one damage to all enemies.

Wand Ordering

Abilities on wands occur in order from top to bottom. Because of this, some abilities cannot appear above others, since it would create annoying effects.

Generally, wands can be categorized into three groups.

  • GROUP 1: Abilities that kill enemies when they are hit by a wand beam. These always appear above group 2:
    • 29_o_espelho O Espelho – Mirror Kill. In addition, this appears above all other group 1 abilities.
    • 06_coquetel_de_camarao Coquetel de Camarao – Shrimp Cocktail. In addition, this appears below O Espelho and above all other group 1 abilities.
    • 05_senha Senha – Secret Attack
    • 08_morte_de_lagarto Morte de Largarto – Kill Lizard
    • 09_morte_de_sapo Morte de Sapo – Kill Frog
    • 10_morte_de_galo Morte de Galo – Kill Chicken
    • 13_impar_e_par Impar e Par – Alternating Kill
    • 14_alvo_preciso Alvo Preciso – Precise Kill
    • 15_sangue Sangue – Corpse Kill
    • 50_o_terremoto O Terremoto – Earthquake
    • 01_ataque Ataque – Attack. In addition, this appears below all other group 1 abilities, except O Terremoto – Earthquake.
  • GROUP 2: These apply (mostly) non-lethal abilities to enemies when hit with a wand beam. These always appear below group 1:
    • 22_teleporte_outro Teleporte Outro – Teleport Other. In addition, always appears above 02_o_fogo O Fogo – Side Attack.
    • 23_dormir Dormir – Sleep
    • 27_O_toxico O Toxico – Poison
    • 24_polimorfo Polimorfo – Polymorph
    • 25_duplicar Duplicar – Duplicate
    • 26_esgotar Esgotar – Remove Abilities
    • 28_urdidura_de_tempo Urdidura de Tempo – Time Warp
    • 49_caro Caro – Gem Kill. This is a lethal ability, but the wand checks to see if it can kill a monster first before it burns a gem.
  • GROUP 3: Everything else, i.e. abilities that don’t directly affect a monster when hit by a wand beam. These can generally appear anywhere on the wand, with some weird exceptions:
    • 02_o_fogo O Fogo – Side Attack. Appears below 22_teleporte_outro Teleporte Outro – Teleport Other. This ensures that if you teleport a monster away, adjacent monsters will get hit.
    • 04_explosso Esplosao – Explosion. Appears above 16_camarao_novo Camarao Novo – Spawn Shrimp. This means you can’t make a shrimp and immediately blow it up.
    • 31_construir Construir – Build Wall. Appears above 32_demolicao Demolicao – Break Wall.
    • 42_envolver Envolver – Continuing Ray. Appears above 43_reflexao Reflexao – Reflecting Ray.
    • 36_colecao Colecao – Grab Treasure. Appears below 25_duplicar Duplicar – Duplicate.

  1. I’m so into this game. Some comments and corrections:

    #2: O Fogo: Probably not a bug–I think this is already one of the best attacking effects, so requiring an empty space seems like a fair drawback.
    #6: Coquetal de Camarão: Note that if you’re at full health, the shrimp stays alive!
    #13: Impar e Par: Also kills the 4th enemy, and the 6th, and so on.
    #19 Energia: This can be paired with Identificar! But, see #47 below.
    #26 Esgotar: I don’t *think* this is ever assigned during your first four runs.
    #32: Demolição: This can break multiple walls in one turn. I see this most often when it’s paired with Reflexão.
    #47 Identificar: The choice isn’t random. I won’t say more, except that I really enjoyed figuring out exactly how this works.
    #48 Esquecer: Also not random. And a new (unknown) effect replaces whatever you delete, so you might be making your wands better by using this, even though you’re losing information.

    Esquecer does not replace unidentified abilities.
    Explosso -> Explosao
    Indentificar -> Identificar
    Impar e Par: I would just say “kills every other enemy your beam touches” 🙂
    Braco Direito Forte: Can also be carried into the next game.
    A Energia: It’s true that it can’t be on the same wand as treasure creation, but it’s also the case that there’s a hard cap on treasure creation of 8 per wand per floor – It’s very possible to have an infinite treasure engine, the game just cuts it off. By the way, you also can’t have two treasure-creation abilities on the same wand, either. (Polimorfo is not counted in the list of treasure-creation abilities, even though it can create Galos which drop treasure)>
    On Teleporte Outro, you write: “It’s possible for an enemy to be teleported next to you and hit you.” But I was specifically assured this was fixed! Are you /entirely/ certain this happened?

    I have to step out for a bit but I’ll finish going through this later today.

    Demolicao -> I think it’s worth noting that you can’t clear the lock walls themselves with this.
    Poupanca -> Also allows the wand to store charges added with A Energia (pretty sure, don’t have time to reconfirm)
    Proteger -> Worth noting that it does not work against spells enemies cast, even Ataque
